**JOB PURPOSE:**

The WASH and Shelter Assistant will support the WASH Program Officer in managing construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance activities related to shelters, water supply systems, and sewerage networks. The role includes assisting in planning and supervising construction works, ensuring that implementation complies with approved designs and technical specifications. The assistant will also conduct regular field monitoring to track progress, verify the quality of completed works, and ensure that all activities are properly executed and documented at project sites.

**Duties and responsibilities:**

The WASH &Shelter Assistant supports the implementation and management of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities within humanitarian or development projects. The position works under the supervision of the WASH Officer to ensure the provision of safe water services, appropriate sanitation systems, construction, and the improvement of hygiene practices in the targeted communities.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Assist in implementing projects related to the rehabilitation or construction of water networks, wells, reservoirs, and sanitation systems.
2. Conduct field visits to project sites to monitor the progress of activities and ensure compliance with technical specifications and approved plans.
3. Support the implementation of needs assessments and the collection and analysis of data related to water supply and sanitation services.
4. Contribute to the preparation of technical and periodic reports on work progress and field challenges.
5. Coordinate with engineering teams, local communities, and community committees to ensure proper implementation of activities.
6. Follow up on the supply of materials and equipment related to water and sanitation projects and ensure their proper use.
7. Assist in supervising construction and civil works with approved drawings and technical specifications.
8. Monitoring contractors’ construction activities, verifying work quantities, and ensuring the quality of building materials and workmanship used in WASH facilities.

**PERSONAL SPECIFICATION**
It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and sympathy with the Islamic values and principles as well as commitment to Islamic Relief Worldwide’s vision and mission.

**Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications**

- Minimum 3 years of related experience with at least 1 year with international NGO.
- Strong communication, interpersonal & technical skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to take initiatives if required.
- Ability to multi-task effectively as well as display professionalism and confidence.
- Good report writing skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Familiarity of monitoring & evaluation instruments & documents is preferable.
- Able to work effectively under, & adapt to, difficult conditions.
- Willingness & ability to travel within inside the country.


**Language**
- Good in both Languages English & Arabic (written and spoken).


**IT skills**
- Very good computer skills.
- Proficiency in the internet and search tools.
- Proficiency in MS office and the ability to use software necessary for project management and reporting. (Excel and word is a must)
- Proficiency in using the construction and designing software needed for the work.

**Protection and Safeguarding Awareness**

- Awareness of child protection principles and safeguarding of vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of institutional safeguarding frameworks and policies, including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
- Participation in protection-related trainings and familiarity with reporting mechanisms for misconduct or violations.
